Dr. Michael Castro is a graduate of the UIW Rosenberg School of Optometry. He earned his undergraduate degree in Accounting from Texas A&M University in College Station.
During his training, he focused on treatment of ocular diseases including management in diabetic retinopathy, glaucoma and macular degeneration. He is also well-versed in the treatment of diseases of the anterior segment and cornea with a particular interest in dry eye management.
His professional memberships include the Texas Optometric Association, the American Optometric Association and the Bexar County Optometric Society.

Valerie began her optical career in 2004 and earned certification through the American Board of Opticianry in 2010. She has experience in all areas of optometry including patient testing, contact lens fitting, frame-styling, insurance and fabrication of glasses in the lab.
As our office manager, Valerie is focused on your experience with us being the best it can be. This includes a dedication to each and every patient's needs long after your eye exam is over. She makes sure to keep up with the latest advancements in eyecare by attending annual continuing education classes and is well respected in the industry. Her goal is to provide each patient with personalized eye care while upholding the prompt and professional service you deserve.
She likes to spend her free time on outdoor hiking adventures, watching football, taking fun family trips and meeting new friends. She also enjoys painting, reading and watching scary movies. She is also excitedly planning her upcoming wedding with her fiancé Tad!
Meet Shandi! She has been with our team since 2017, and after a short break, we are thrilled to welcome her back as our lead Administrative Coordinator. With her 13 years of experience in the optical field, rest assured that she can answer all of your insurance questions and will expertly guide you through our check-in process.
Shandi is a San Antonio native and a huge fan of the SA Spurs. She is very family-oriented and has 3 children, who happen to all have the same birthday each 2 years apart!
Shandi loves to spend her spare time at home with her Dog Raelyn and husband Danny. She also enjoys taking walks and going swimming at the river.
Meet Erica! We can always count on her knowledge and experience in the insurance and administrative areas of the practice. She is here to help coordinate your benefits with our high standard of care. She is a very compassionate person and goes above and beyond to assist her patients needs. With over 5 years of experience she is also skilled with frame selection, patient testing and is willing to step in wherever you may need her.
Erica lives in San Antonio with her daughter Jasmine and their 2 dogs and cat, Sam, Bean, and Bonnie. Her favorite past time is going to watch her daughter's marching band performances. She is a former fire-twirler and has won 2 competitive trophies!
Meet Nancy! As our Medical Tech, she will be involved in making sure your special testings are handled with expertise and care.
Nancy started her career with our practice in the summer of 2019, and she has used her time here to make lasting connections and learn how to utilize advancements in medical eye care to treat our patients.

Meet Jacob! Our friendly Medical Tech is focused on you and will ensure your needs and concerns are addressed at each visit. Jacob has been a part of our team since October 2019, with a brief break, and we are so excited to welcome him back! He has experience with both insurance coverage and verification as well as in-depth testing procedures. Jacob has a passion for working with people of all ages. In his free time, he enjoys playing video games, writing, and loves all things related to Japanese culture.
Meet Tommie! She is the newest member of Team TSO Schertz, and comes to us with over 2 years of optical experience. She is here to assist with filling the doctor's prescription to get your vision back to a fully restored 20/20. She will begin with finding the perfect frame for your face, your style and your budget. You'll love her recommendations and expertise.
Tommie is currently both a full-time optician and full-time student! She is studying business administration online and enjoys learning everything about running a business. Her hobbies include taking walks, calligraphy, and cooking but her favorite thing to do is travel all over the world.
