Dr. Leigha M. Nielsen graduated with honors from the University of Houston College of Optometry. She also holds degrees in Biology and Business Management. During the course of her studies, she participated in research focusing on keratoconus, a degenerative eye disease. She presented her research at the Associates for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology (ARVO) and the American Academy of Optometry (AAO). As an active member of the Schertz community, Dr. Nielsen volunteers at the local Lion’s Club, YMCA health fairs, and is a member of the Schertz Chamber of Commerce. Professional memberships include the Texas Optometric Association, the American Optometric Association, and the Bexar County Optometric District Socity. Dr. Nielsen practices full-scope Optometry and works with patients of all ages, specializing in standard and specialty contact lens fittings, minor ocular surgeries, diagnosis and treatment of amblyopia, anterior segment pathologies, cataracts, glaucoma, and retinal pathologies. She also handles a great deal of refractive corrective surgery co-management and cataract surgery co-management.
Dr. Nielsen always takes the time to explain the results of your eye exam, go over your options and listen to your eye care needs. Because maintaining good eye health is an ongoing partnership, we encourage you to ask questions and share your health information, which could be vital to monitoring, diagnosing and treating potential vision problems.
Dr. Amanda K. Williamson is a Summa Cum Laude graduate from the University of Houston College of Optometry and a Summa Cum Laude graduate from Texas A&M University with a Bachelor of Science in Biology. Dr. Williamson earned several Letters of Clinical Excellence for her exceptional patient care and clinical skills, served as President of the Fellowship of Christian Optometrists and was asked to serve three semesters as a Teaching Assistant during optometry school.
Dr. Williamson is passionate about maximizing her patient’s visual potential and ocular health by caring for each patient as an individual and addressing their specific questions and concerns. She has gained extensive experience with pediatric eye care, vision therapy, co-management of cataract surgery and fitting specialty contact lenses for myopia control and corneal diseases during her clinical externships. She has also managed many ocular conditions including diabetic retinopathy, glaucoma, and dry eye disease.
Dr. Williamson her husband are both Native Texans with Hill Country roots. They are thrilled to be a part of the Schertz and greater San Antonio area communities! In her free time, Dr. Williamson loves to cook, read and spend time with her husband doing CrossFit, camping, skiing and enjoying the great outdoors.
