Dr. Leigha M. Nielsen graduated with honors from the University of Houston College of Optometry. She also holds degrees in Biology and Business Management. During the course of her studies, she participated in research focusing on keratoconus, a degenerative eye disease, which was presented at the Associates for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology (ARVO) and the American Academy of Optometry (AAO).
Her professional memberships include the Texas Optometric Association, the American Optometric Association, and the Bexar County Optometric District Society. Dr. Nielsen practices full-scope Optometry and works with patients of all ages, specializing in standard and specialty contact lens fittings, minor ocular surgeries, diagnosis and treatment of amblyopia, anterior segment pathologies, cataracts, glaucoma, and retinal pathologies. She also handles a great deal of refractive corrective surgery co-management and cataract surgery co-management.
A strong believer in community and family, Dr. Nielsen plays an active role in the city of Schertz where she owns and practices at Texas State Optical, and is excited to take that same approach to her new location in New Braunfels. Both of these locations specifically highlight the importance of caring for the eyes of the entire family with specific pediatric care designed to provide children with comprehensive testing and therapy to give them every advantage in life.
Children having that ability to confidently go to school and learn without the struggles and disadvantages vision related problems can incur is why she has relocated her full-service vision therapy clinic, Nielsen Vision Development Center, to be housed at Texas State Optical – Oak Run. By providing every option to parents and their families under one roof, we can ensure that no half measures are taken when treating a child’s vision.
Dr. Nielsen will always take the time to explain the results of your eye exam, go over your options and listen to your eye care needs. Because maintaining good eye health is an ongoing partnership, we encourage you to ask questions and share your health information, which could be vital to monitoring, diagnosing and treating potential vision problems.

As our clinic team lead I am happy to answer all of your questions, seeking to find a quality solution for every optical need. I work hard to make sure each patient feels at ease during their pre-testing process and enjoy assisting in finding the perfect eyewear for your lifestyle. My goal is to provide each patient with personalized eye care while upholding the prompt and professional service you deserve.
I like to spend my free time going on outdoor hiking adventures, watching football, taking fun family trips and meeting new friends. I also enjoy painting, reading and watching scary movies!

Teresa is a TSO Supertech dedicated to providing quality care to every patient she meets. Her retirement after seventeen years in the field of education was short lived as her passion for learning new things led her to take on the challenge of beginning a new career as an optometric technician. She’s currently working on her CPOA certification to further her knowledge in the field.
She married her high school sweetheart and they have a son, two dogs and two cats. She and her husband have been involved in ministry since 1990 and in 2004 they started a home church where they continue to serve the community. When she’s not hard at work, she likes spending time in her vegetable garden and sharing the fruits of her labor with family and friends. She enjoys a variety of music genres and is seriously considering going from playing percussion instruments to playing drums! She loves to BBQ and entertain those near and dear to her.

Hello! My name is Megan, I am fairly new to this practice but I have already learned so much! I have been in the optical industry for about four years and I enjoy this profession greatly. I love helping patients with frame selections or with any questions they have regarding glasses or contact lenses. I am here to help in any way I can and my main goal is making sure our patients leave here with a wonderful experience.
I am newly married this year and my husband and I have a seventeen month old son who runs our world. We enjoy trips out to Canyon Lake and going to South Padre beach whenever we can make it!
